In a week that's seen British footballers in the news for the wrong reasons - Ashley Cole shooting someone with an air pistol (the muppet), Wayne Rooney elbowing someone in the face - it's a relief to see there's still some glamour left in the beautiful game.
Perma-tanned, Armani-panted, six-pack-packing Cristiano Ronaldo has popped the question to his stunning girlfriend, 24-year-old swimwear model Irina Shayk.
It's not for me to draw comparisons between Coleen Rooney and Irina Shayk, just because Wayne and Cristiano used to be team mates at Manchester United.
But it's just too tempting...
Liverpool born Coleen has her fashion and beauty ranges, a variety of perfumes, books and workout DVDs. And of course, Coleen's proudest achievement - her son Kai, with childhood sweetheart Wayne.
Not bad. Not bad at all. But then I started doing some intensive research - aka googling - on Irina...
Irina Shayk may not be a household name in the UK, but she is one of the hottest models in the world. From Yemanzhelinsk, in Russia (remember that one for Scrabble) she's graced the covers of Sports Illustrated, Spanish GQ, South African GQ, Spanish Elle and Russian Tatler - to name but a few. Sorry Wayne, as well as being a better player on the pitch, Cristiano has totally outscored you on the WAG front. 
I know I'm being shallow, but this is football. Who else apart from footballers (or rappers) would get pink leather seats in their cars? Or wear Louis Vuitton trainers? Shallow is a status symbol! And I'm shallowly declaring that Irina Shayk is hot.
Coleen's position as a role model for young girls may have been diminished by her seemingly forgiving Wayne's 'indiscretions', but Irina's position as a model is undeniable.
While Wayne and Coleen go from one domestic bump-in-the-road to another, Cristiano and Irina will glide effortlessly from beach to bar, travelling first class all the way.
If football truly is the beautiful game, we've got our new King and Queen. And as long as there are enough mirrors for both of them to admire themselves, I'm sure Cristiano and Irina will be very happy together. Just imagine how gorgeous, tanned - and potentially oily - their kids will be.
