If there's one thing that's for sure, the Burberry man for Autumn Winter 2011 is certainly not afraid to play with color. It was like Burberry goes back to school, a rainbow of primary colors--bright yellows, reds and blues--check flannel peacoats, bright blue raincoats and even a puffy toggle coat in school bus yellow. There was something very boyish about the collection from the start. From the coloured sneakers to the wellies to the knitted newsboy caps, the Burberry boy is a practical man who doesn't mind getting his hands dirty, as long as he looks sharp whilst doing it.
In between the slew of breathtaking trenches executed in perfectly tailored wool, herringbone and tweed trenches, came a selection of luxurious slouchy knits. Thick twisted cables in navy and black, a soft caramel cable knit, and a knit-cum-rabbit double textured jumper are every day practical basics with a seriously cool yet luxuriously sophisticated update.
And then there came...the FUR. That's right boys, buckle up for sheared beasts of all sorts. Move over Emma Watson, Rubeus Hagrid is about to oust you from your number one spot as the face of Burberry. This fall, for the burly Burberry man, it's time to go oversized, shaggy, skins of goat and sheep galore! Honestly, real men don't hunt like cave man, they wear fur like cave man (just fastforwarded the fabulousness a few millenia)!
And then there was of course a he-version of this season's number one best-selling "it" item, not you, Houlian...that divine aviator jacket...Alright boys, it's your turn to fight this one out now.
Finally, as the show approached its end, the Burberry man slid out of his shaggy shearling after a full day's woodcutting, returned to his little Kensington hut and slipped into something a little more elegant. All polished up for night time, the evening looks consisted of slick, refined tailored pieces like chauffeur jackets and suits, a few accessorized with ermine collars. This is Burberry, after all, in the year of the royal wedding, a regal finishing touch for eveningtime was the perfect finale!
